For just a few dollars, you too can be a farmer...

I am in serious farm dreaming mode lately.  I don't know why but every once in a while my desire for some land and some animals becomes an acute ache.  But since I am firmly embedded in suburbia for now and unable to have more the 6 hens(which I have), I go down the street to Thanksgiving Point's Farm Country and talk to the cows, ride in trailers pulled by retired farmers, and feed the ridiculously cute goats.  It helps for a while but like any unnatural stimulant, I crash after-wards and want a farm more than ever.  I listen to Dolly Parton, peruse rural real estate, and plan future orchard placement and animal housing.  Oh well, I'm addicted.  Someday I'll have the real deal.

I'm right there with you. We too live in suburbia, though we scoff at the "livestock ordinances" (at least I think we do as I have yet to find any that specifically prohibit them). We don't have an HOA though (not sure if you do), which would definitely make it more difficult.

But I want my farm!!!

You sound like me! I sometimes dream a little too much...like at work...like right now! We even started our Thursday Farms blog as a way of tracking our progress towards our dream!

Yikes! Back to work!

Yep. I know exactly that ache. I'm glad you have a farm down the road to at least get a little bit of a fix. :)

You all are still more "farmer" than some people, just because they own the land... The desire to know, and learning the skills on a smaller scale are helping you be a better planner on things like what is important, and what things go best where...

Love your blog! First time here! :)

We sound so much a like!! I'm a country girl, stuck in the city! We're buying a house & as soon as we get settled I'm gettin' chickens!!! I can't wait! Especially after all this egg contamination weirdness!
Anyway, great pics!
