A New Coop

A few months ago we had a devastating chicken coop fire.
And this...
 turned into this....
Luckily, we had a Red Barn Coop, and this is where the girls have been since the fire.
Isn't is just so cute? It is just perfect for about 3-4 chickens and we have 7. Plus, we want to add more chicks to our little flock. So we have been busy building a new coop.

Michael and our friend Lance have been building all weekend. Here is what we have so far.
I'm so pleased with how it is turning out!

The only problem, is that little Madelyn thinks it is her playhouse!

What color do you think it should be?

I love the new coop! I love the red that you did before, but I'm sure whatever color you pick will be great!

I loved the red too, with white trim. Says- farm!

Red looks good. How about an egg yolk yellow? It might inspire the girls.

Personally, I like brown...
Guess Madelyn won't mind living with the chickens. ;o)
I'm sure you'll come up with a color you like. :o)

Have a great day!

I like pink for hens. But yellow is my favorite.

Great blog. What cracks me up is that you call it "urban farming", and then I see the beautiful spacious backdrop in your pictures and I think "if that's urban then I must live in Manhattan"

Thanks everyone for the color suggestions!

Drew, the heading is quite old, that was from when we did live in the suburbs. We are no longer "urban farmers". Thanks for pointing out that we need to change that!!!

Very nice! After that fire, it is especially joyful to see the new coop. Fire is very devastating, much worse than just experiencing loss because fire reminds us that it consumes everything in its path. I'm glad you are moving forward. Looks great. I thing barnyard red is always fabulous, but with some sort of twist - I painted a mean muscle bird that has chest hair sprigs on the door to our chicken coop. It gets hysterical laughs with every visitor. Good luck!

It's a lovely coop. I think red is great on a coop, it's such a bright contrast against the wild grass and blue sky..

Maybe you should let the girls decide? After all, it is their home. Love the cozy new coop!
