Your Backyard Farm

Brett and Christine sent us pictures of their parents/in-laws yard that they helped make over. As you can see, this is quite the makeover!

The retaining wall was hired out, but the rest was compliments of family members blood, sweat, and tears.

They currently have:
over 20 citrus fruit trees
6 laying hens
3 grape arbors
herbs
vegetables
compost bin
worm bin

Future plans include:
expansion of the raised beds
aquaponics project
long term food storage in the garage
Even more sustainable living!

BEFORE
And just take a look at what they turned it into!!!

That's a backyard I would LOVE to spend some time in!

Wow! This is really inspirational. And how many acres is this on? My husband and I have been seriously considering doing something like this . Thanks for the pictures!

That is an awesome transformation of a backyard. How long did it take to accomplish all that work? The hen house shed is truly an asset to the backyard. They really did a great job. My backyard is in transformation as well but in a different way. Additions of a swingset and a soon to be seven grandson's elevated fort will make the backyard the place to play in the neighborhood. The opposite side of the yard is the garden area and has five raised garden beds. It's amazing how just one 50 X 50 foot backyard can keep me so busy during the summer. Hopefully by the end of this year the construction phase will be complete and the enjoyment phase will begin. .... Nah how boring would that be?

Have a great day in the garden.

Wow!!!!

Guess they're going to be sharing the fruits of their garden with everyone who helped create such an amazing place.

I especially love the 5* chicken coop - wish I could live in that LOL

What an amazing setup! This gives me some ideas for the back half of our property!

That is amazing! We are plodding along project by project, doing it all ourselves, which is actually affordable. Fortunately, we don't need a retaining wall! That coop is amazing--wish I had the $$ in mine--we are using hardware cloth LOL.

Looks like southern California.

Greetings everyone and thank you for all the kind comments. The property is in Upland, CA ( approx 45 minutes east of Los Angels) It's 3/4 of an acre including the house. The actual backyard measures 60'x40' Right now we're currently racing to get some additional crops in before summer comes to an end. Also waiting on 6 banana trees which are due first of next week. As for the chicken coop, well.... it really did seem like a simple build when we began, but somewhere along the way things kind of got a little out of hand. - Brett

GORGEOUS!! Love it all, the compost bins look wonderful and (fairly?) easy to replicate. The chicken coop goes without saying. Wonderful.

We're in Lancaster, an hour northeast of Los Angeles.
