I think it'sa good option that might solve a lot of problems. But I don't think it's the "end all be all". I think we need not only more produce as this would give us - but we also need more people working the land and experiencing farming first hand. That's why BACKYARD farming is so important.
I think it is great to think out of the box and plan for what will almost inevitably need to happen in the farming industry. It is just sad to think of farming in this way though. So cold and mechanical. I still prefer my backyard farm anyday. If everyone would just make the effort to grow their own food, this sort of design wouldn't be necessary. But I know out here in Kansas City we have street after street of bright green lawns with sprinklers spraying away even after rainstorms instead of landowners embracing the mantra GROW FOOD NOT LAWNS!
