Check out this video of a TED talk from Mark Bittman. I think you will find it interesting. I don't agree with everything he says by any means but he has an interesting viewpoint on the ills of our modern food supply. He posits that one of the biggest problems with the world today is that we eat too much meat. This leads to health, and environmental problems. He gives a very quick history of modern food supply starting at about 7:40 in. My favorite quote that he gave was "We are not born craving whoppers and skittles."
Like I said, I don't agree with everything he says but I do think I would be better off eating less meat and processed foods. Marisa and I have already improved on this but we can do even better.

ReplyDeleteI think the biggest problem is that we have been brainwashed, overloaded with constant ads saying we have to be a consumer society.
And the next biggest problem is that the big commercial operations raise and process our food unsafely.
Sorry. Can't put my thoughts into words right now but hopefully you understand what I'm, saying.
I was surprised when we moved to the country and had a big garden and offered vegetables to people who would reply that they don't eat them. There are people who eat mostly meat, it may be necessary if you live in the arctic but I was really surprised. Ancient peoples were hunter gatherers which implies a balance.

ReplyDeleteI may no have been born crazing skittles, but I was born craving chocolate. I did buy a bagged mix nuts, pomegranate and dark chocolate last night tat I am pretty proud of.

ReplyDeleteI almost cringe at the thought of how brainwashed through media and other forms of information I've been over the years when it comes to what I've been eating and putting into my body.
ReplyDeleteThe USDA is our enemy and they do not have the consumer's best interest at heart. They only want to promote their agenda, which is selling corn, soy and very unhealthy meat products.
I can't wait to see the results of this revolution on the diseases that are prevelant today. By getting back to our roots of eating we are prayerfully going to reduce diseases like diabetes and heart disease.

I'd have to go with processed foods - they all have so many chemicals and and unnatural additives, and many of us have been conditioned to eat them.
ReplyDeleteI'm a lot healthier now that I took out grains and soy, sugar, etc, and increased meat and fat. You need fat with your meals to even absorb vitamins. (fat-soluble ones)
