That's always good. Still feel sorry the bird, I'm a vegan so animals are my soft spot, bu good job, I wish more farmers today did the same as you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8546718730043897500.post-44844353868480577692011-08-27T11:30:48.987-07:002011-08-27T11:30:48.987-07:00I used to do this on a local farm. Probably some of both.

This makes me wish we had someone who we could pay to do it. :)Alicehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02784160644947020521noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8546718730043897500.post-79109597057917590372009-05-28T13:14:16.533-07:002009-05-28T13:14:16.533-07:00It cost us $1.95 each to have them buthered (whole...It cost us $1.95 each to have them buthered (whole chicken in plastic bag with heart, liver, and gizzard put inside.)I will do an article in a few days on the economics.Dale Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01806698744292076677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8546718730043897500.post-38814781676952245382009-05-28T13:01:57.493-07:002009-05-28T13:01:57.493-07:00Hi, I am Rachel from Hawaii and I love reading you...Hi, I am Rachel from Hawaii and I love reading your blog. I have a garden and I enjoy it and enjoy your posts. But I am very interested in the economics of broilers. And the cost of sending them to the butcher vs. doing the deed yourself. Please post on that. THAnks for letting me look in.

Mahalo,
Rachel BRachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02739488493192195427noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8546718730043897500.post-31993022234542278582009-05-27T13:46:37.320-07:002009-05-27T13:46:37.320-07:00Becca,

They can get pretty aggresive too. I never want another rooster on my property.Dale Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01806698744292076677noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8546718730043897500.post-72954505344577647792009-05-27T12:10:53.121-07:002009-05-27T12:10:53.121-07:00That is a lot of chickens in your freezer. I do hope I can find a butchering place to do the dirty deed though I will do it if need be. Also curious if the added cost of having an outside butcher still makes raising your own cost effective.Little Anthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14413503403619312098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8546718730043897500.post-25495871382957083982009-05-26T12:11:23.194-07:002009-05-26T12:11:23.194-07:00We harvested these chickens a week and a half earl...We harvested these chickens a week and a half earlier than last year so they weighed less on average - 7 pounds. They are straight run (males and females) so the the weights are quite varible.
